Red Fox - Karina Halle “And with madness comes the light.” ― Karina Halle, Red FoxThe second installment in the Experiment in Terror Series takes Perry Palomino and Dex Foray to the barren deserts of New Mexico where they are to observe a rash of phenomena involving a Navajo couple. The couple has been plagued by odd rock "storms", wild animals running amok in their home, and the evisceration of their sheep. While in New Mexico, we are introduced to a new character, Maximus, a friend of Dex's from college. Halle didn't disappoint with the sequel to Darkhouse. She has the unique ability to describe scenes in such a way that I feel like I am watching a movie in my head. She uses the perfect words to make the book come alive to me. It makes the whole story feel terrifyingly real. I could sense the creepiness from the blind wife, like to the point that if she was in a scene I basically read with one eye because the other was under the covers. The relationship between Dex and Maximus intrigues the hell out of me, even after reading the remaining books. I just know something serious had to go down between these two. We get a little bit of a taste of their history in Red Fox, which makes Dex's character all the more interesting. Just what happened to this guy? “Dex,” I whispered.“Mmmm?” he grunted.“I hope you never stop feeling alive.”I could have sworn his heart skipped a few beats. He tensed. Then relaxed.“As long as you’re around,” he said softly, “I’ll be alive.” ― Karina Halle, Red FoxThe attraction between Perry and Dex intensifies to a boiling point. During the climax of the book something happens that made me absolutely squee in delight. Ah! I just couldn't wait to see where it went in the third book.My Review Blog
